The lengthy investigation involved detectives from the Sayre Police Department after authorities were made aware of the incident by family members.

The Texas Department of Safety also assisted in the case.

The affidavit stated that Shaffer allegedly inappropriately touched his then 11-year-old cousin while both were staying the night at a family member’s home in Sayre, on the night of July 4, 2020. During an interview with Texas DPS officials, Shaffer would confess to the wrongdoing.

Once arrested, bond for Shaffer was set at $100,000.
