Coordinated efforts between two western Oklahoma police departments helped bring a high speed chase on Interstate 40 to a peaceful end.

As a result, a Seiling woman and Yukon man were arrested and charged in Custer County District Court last week.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Weatherford Police Department, the incident took place during the early morning hours of March 16 when police were dispatched to a person attempting to break into locked cars. When police arrived, they were unable to find the suspects however did find a suspicious vehicle with a Colorado license plate. After an officer ran the plate’s number, the vehicle would turn on and leave the scene at a high rate of speed.

Weatherford police would give chase that saw the vehicle drive through city streets at speeds near 70 miles per hour.

Eventually the vehicle would enter I-40, heading westbound on the east bound lanes. Officers would report that the vehicle would on multiple occasions nearly hit oncoming traffic, including semis. The chase would lead to the east side of Clinton near mile maker 69, where Clinton Police had set up a road block to prevent any more oncoming traffic from entering the interstate.

Finally, Weatherford Police would successfully pin the vehicle between patrol units in the median of the interstate, bringing the chase to an end.

With the help of Clinton Police, the driver, 28-year-old Taylor Charmayne Gore and a passenger 34-year-old Mark Blake Baker of Yukon were arrested without further incident.

The affidavit stated that a search of the vehicle would turn up various stolen items, along with a glass smoking pipe, pills that police believed to be Xanax, and possible marijuana.

Gore was charged with one count of endangering others while eluding, or attempting to elude police and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia – a misdemeanor.
