Southwestern Oklahoma State University is seeking to return its Sayre location to a community college tuition/fee structure effective this upcoming Fall 2020 semester.
According to a press release from the school, the change would be subject to approval by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
Before the Sayre location joined SWOSU on July 1, 1987, it was a community college.
SWOSU Sayre Dean Bill Swartwood says “This is an incredible opportunity for the residents of western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle to enjoy the benefits of a premier regional university coupled with the price and personal attention of a community college.”.
The new tuition/fee schedule will only apply to face-to-face classes at Sayre.
SWOSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. James South says the main goal is to encourage residents in the areas of Western Oklahoma and the East Texas Panhandle to attend classes at Sayre.
The tuition rate with mandatory fees would be $175 per hour, a savings of $60 per credit hour and nearly $900 per semester based on 15 hours. The price does not include Academic Enhancement Fees, which would be paid by the student.
South also stated that it is the school’s belief that this will help fill sections on at the Sayre location.
It is unclear when the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education will vote on the proposal, however the next scheduled meeting is February 27 and February 28 at East Central University in Ada.
