Weatherford, OK – A Weatherford man has been arrested and charged with felony eluding and reckless driving after leading police on a high-speed chase that exceeded 100 miles per hour through Custer County.

According to court documents, 22-year-old Johnathan Alexis Soto was spotted by Weatherford Police an officer on the evening of February 2. The officer observed a black 2017 Chevrolet Camaro convertible with dimmed tail lights and a brake light violation traveling westbound on I-40. When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver instead accelerated onto Jim Cobb Road, initiating a dangerous pursuit.

During the chase, Soto allegedly drove recklessly, weaving through traffic and nearly causing collisions. The pursuit continued through multiple roads, including Lyle Road and Lawter Road, before the officer lost sight of the Camaro near county road 2440 and county road 950.

Investigators were able to track the vehicle back to an address on W. Daniel Street in Weatherford. When officers made contact with a resident, they learned that Soto was the primary driver of the vehicle. Initially, Soto denied involvement, claiming he had been at a friend’s house in Hydro. However, when confronted with inconsistencies in his story, he reportedly admitted to running from police, stating, “I like the thrill of it.”

Soto was arrested and taken into custody without further incident. He faces charges of Endangering Others While Eluding a Police Officer, a felony, and Reckless Driving, a misdemeanor. His bond was set at $10,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
