The Weatherford Police Department is seeking the public’s help in recovering stolen items from Ace Hardware after arresting an Altus man accused of shoplifting.
According to a press release from the department, on Friday, January 17th, 29-year-old Landon Kelly Smith is accused of walking into Ace Hardware in Weatherford, cutting a security cable, and taking a Stihl brand concrete saw, and a Stihl band chainsaw from the display. The release stated that Ace was able to provide video of the theft to Weatherford Police, and they were able to identify the suspect. Officers would ultimately locate and arrest Smith on suspicion of grand larceny. During the arresting process, officers discovered that Smith had already sold both items in the Weatherford area. The press release stated that they are looking to retrieve both saws, and that they are not looking to press any additional charges on whoever bought the property but would like to interview them. Weatherford Police also reminds the public that both of the items are listed as stolen and are registered in the National Crime Base for Stolen Property and will remain there until recovered. They said by turning over the property now, it will prevent anyone getting charged at a later date for possessing stolen property.
According to records, Smith has not yet been formally charged of the crime.
