Voting sites were busy Tuesday with the first major election day of the year.

Primary Elections took place throughout Oklahoma with a wide range of seats up for grabs including United State Senate and Representative positions.

Of local interest, primary elections were held for two Oklahoma House of Representative seats, one in District 55 and the other in 57. The hotly contested District 57 race went to incumbent Anthony Moore, gaining 62% of the vote over challenger Kristen Kelley Poisson.

District 55 will have a new representative with Nick Archer gaining 53% of the vote over Jeff Sawatzky and Tad Boone.

That position is being vacated by Todd Russ due to term limits.

Speaking of Todd Russ, his bid for the State Treasurer position has advanced to a runoff election with Clark Jolley after Russ gained 48% of the vote. Jolley obtained 33% approval.

One runoff election has developed locally as well.

State Senator Darcy Jech, who represents District 26, and Brady Butler will face off for that seat later this summer after gaining 42% of the vote. Butler obtained 37% approval.

The runoff election will take place on August 23.

County Commissioner seats decided yesterday had Johnny Davis win the Beckham County District #3 position by gaining 64% of the vote over Robert Thompson. In Custer County, Wade Anders retained his seat as County Commissioner in District 1 by acquiring 61% of the vote over challengers Jeremiah Trent and David Fawver.

Back in Beckham County, Jonathan Beck will stay on as the County Assessor by getting 59% of the vote over challenger Kayla York Harris.
