Active Shooter Training Planned in Weatherford

OHP Press Release

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Weatherford Police Department, Southwest Oklahoma State University Police Department and Weatherford Fire Department will be conducting an active intruder exercise on Monday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Weatherford High School. The plan is to simulate a Rave Panic Button active intruder alert at the high school.

OHP has partnered with the RAVE App organization to create a notification system designed to alert OHP to any school using the app. OHP will then notify every trooper by radio, text and e-mail of an active shooter/intruder event.

The purpose of the exercise is to document response times by all law enforcement, EMS and Fire personnel. First responders will be staging at the school but will not actually enter the school. The exercise is purposefully being done on a day when students will be out of school for the holiday.

If you hear mentions of an active shooter situation at Weatherford High School on February 20, it is just a test of the system and not an actual active threat.
