A Dill City man was charged recently with arson after allegedly setting fire to a stolen purse.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Elk City Police, 25-year-old Christopher Kelly Wolfe was arrested on the morning of October 27, after the defendant allegedly confessed to the crime.

The court document stated that Wolfe was suspected in stealing a purse, stating that they had video evidence of the crime. Police say just after midnight on the morning of October 27, a structure fire was reported at an unoccupied resident in the 200 block of Watkins Ave. in Elk City.

Police stated that during the course of the investigation, a tracking device was inside the stolen purse and that tracking device was located at the residence where the fire occurred.

Later that morning, police were able to locate Wolfe at an Elk City convenience store. While speaking with police, Wolfe allegedly would confess to taking the purse, taking money out of the purse, and subsequently discovering the tracking device.

The affidavit stated that in an attempt to destroy the evidence, Wolfe allegedly broke into the home and set fire to the purse.

Wolfe was arrested and booked into the Elk City Jail.

He was charged last week with one felony count of third degree arson and burglary in the second degree.
