Candidate Filing Opens for Board of Education Positions in Roger Mills and Custer Counties

The filing period for Board of Education candidates in Roger Mills and Custer Counties opens Monday, December 2, and runs through Wednesday, December 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Candidates must file a Declaration of Candidacy and a Voter Registration Verification Form at their respective County Election Board offices.

Roger Mills County Details

Filing packets are available online at the State Election Board website or at the Roger Mills County Election Board office in Cheyenne. Board positions are open in several districts, including Cheyenne, Elk City, Hammon, Leedey, Merritt, Reydon, Sayre, Sweetwater, and the Western Technology Center. Contests of Candidacy for Roger Mills County must be filed by Friday, December 6, at 5 p.m.

– If more than two candidates file for the same seat, a Primary Election will be held on February 11, 2025.

– If only two candidates file, their names will appear on the General Election ballot on April 1, 2025.

Custer County Details

In Custer County, candidates for the Board of Education positions in Arapaho-Butler, Clinton, Thomas-Fay-Custer, and Weatherford School Districts must file at the County Election Board office located at 633 North 6th Street, Clinton. Declaration of Candidacy forms can be downloaded at [oklahoma.gov/elections](https://oklahoma.gov/elections) or obtained from the office, which will extend hours to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the filing period.

Ann Brown, Secretary of the Custer County Election Board, reminds candidates that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2024, and can only be filed by another candidate for the same position.

– If more than two candidates file for a position, a Primary Election will take place on February 11, 2025. A candidate receiving more than 50% of the vote will be elected. If no candidate receives over 50%, the two with the highest votes will move to the General Election on April 1, 2025.

– If only two candidates file, their names will appear on the April ballot.
