Elk City City Manager Tom Ivester addressed false rumors that has been circulating on social media regarding the city’s process of declaring a home in the 400 block of N. Main as dilapidated.

He reminds the public that it is not the intention of the city to kick owners out of their homes when the building has been declared dilapidated, and says the previous occupants of the home in question were given plenty of time to vacate the structure. He also added that it was discovered that the individuals were not the home owners, but were squatters in the home.

Ivester said the squatters were contacted months in advance and were told the city’s intentions but still refused to leave the property.
