During a special meeting held Tuesday night, the Clinton City Council approved the interlocal agreement between Clinton and the City of Elk City for use of the Elk City Landfill.

The Elk City Commission approved their side of the agreement during their regular meeting on December 21.

The one year agreement will allow Clinton to dispose their solid waste at the Elk City Landfill at a cost of $36.38 per ton. Last week Elk City City Manager Tom Ivester indicated that the money making deal for Elk City will see those extra funds but utilized at the Elk City Landfill only. He said that if Clinton chooses to bring solid waste to the landfill, it will indeed decrease the overall life of the landfill, but added that with the extra revenue gained from the deal – those funds would be used to expand the landfill if needed.

It was stated that if both parties approve the agreement, the City of Clinton will still need to find a way of shipping the waste to the Elk City Landfill.
