A Clinton man has been charged with first degree arson after an incident earlier this month that saw a birdhouse set on fire.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred on November 1 at a home in the 1100 block of Frisco Avenue when police were dispatched to the home and were told that a male subject, later identified as being 57-year-old Brian Joseph Haney, had allegedly set a birdhouse on fire. As a result, a wooden railing on the front porch had sustained burn damage as well.

The affidavit stated that while this was happening, the owners of the home were inside and were asleep.

The affidavit stated that security footage at the home caught the suspect committing the crime.

Later that night, officers were able to locate Haney and place him under arrested. During a search of the suspect, police reported that he was in possession of a small lighter.

His first court date is scheduled for November 29.
