The man accused of causing a collision that killed six people in Elk City was formally charged with illegal reentry after removal from the United States.

According to a press release from U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester’s Office, 43-year-old Jose Paxtor-Oxlaj was the driver of a vehicle that crashed on November 21. One of the people killed in the collision was a 4-year-old.

The collision also left one person critically injured.

An investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed that Paxtor-Oxlaj was ordered to be removed from the U.S. to Guatemala in 2010. He did not have permission to reenter the U.S., according to ICE investigators.

If found guilty, he could spend up to 20 years in federal prison.

Paxtor-Oxlaj was charged with six counts of first degree manslaughter last week in Beckham County.
