A 52-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with second-degree burglary.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began on October 23 when the Elk City Police Department was dispatched to a store on the 100 block of North Main Street. There, a brick had reportedly been thrown through the window earlier in the morning.
An officer arrived at the scene to speak with an employee, who reportedly told the officer that she and another employee were in the back part of the store when someone allegedly threw a brick through one of the front windows of the store at around 4 a.m.
The affidavit stated that later that morning, the officer visited a nearby store and was able to obtain footage that reportedly showed a white male with a black bike, a dark-colored hoodie, and a red and black beanie cap walking towards the vandalized store just before the brick was thrown and then running in the opposite direction. The man appeared to be carrying “one or two cardboard boxes,” according to the report.
The male in the video was reportedly known to the officer as Darin Gentry. Later that day, police were able to locate and detain Gentry. While speaking with officers, Gentry allegedly admitted to being the person in the video during the interview.
During a search of the location where the defendant said he had been staying, police reported finding clothes that matched the subject in the surveillance video, as well as items taken from the store, including food and four cell phones.
Bond for Gentry was set at $10,000.
