It was announced recently that Oklahoma lawmakers secured more than $650 million in home state projects — ranging from new airplane hangars to medical research — in the $1.7 trillion spending bill to fund the federal government.

Among the various projects, Rep. Frank Lucas (OK-3 Cheyenne) was able to secure a major road project in Roger Mills County.

Of the $90 million secured for transportation projects in the state, $3 million will go towards improvements to US-283 located in Lucas’ home county. Other notable transportation projects in the Congressman’s district awarded funds include $2 million for an economic loop in Altus, and $3 million for improvements to US-54 in Texas County.

$156 million was earmarked for water projects in the state including $640,000 to go towards wastewater lagoons in the Washita County community of Corn. The Lugert-Altus Irrigation District will receive $5 million.

Major projects statewide benefiting from the funds include Tinker Air Force Base — which will get $231 million for construction projects, including two maintenance hangars — and the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System in northeast Oklahoma.
