Smoke from a grass fire may be to blame for a two vehicle accident in Custer County that hospitalized a Weatheford woman.

According to the collision report provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred Sunday at approximately 3:51p.m. on a county road 5 miles east of Custer City.

OHP said a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by 45-year-old Tammy Renea Friesen was southbound on county road 2360 and was left of center of the road while driving through smoke from a nearby grass fire.

Subsequently the vehicle would collide with an oncoming 2022 GMC pickup.

As a result, Friesen was admitted into an Oklahoma City hospital in stable condition for trunk internal and leg injuries. A passenger in the Friesen vehicle, a 14-year-old female, was treated and released for minor injuries at Weatherford Regional Hospital.

Both the driver of the pickup, and a passenger, were not injured.
