Drugs were found in a vehicle and two people were arrested Saturday after Wheeler County, Texas deputies used spike strips to end a 15-mile high speed chase.

According to the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on routine patrol tried to stop a vehicle around 5:30 p.m. on eastbound I-40, just west of US 83 in Shamrock.

The driver refused to stop and headed north on US 83 at a high rate of speed towards Wheeler, Texas.

However, a second deputy in Wheeler set up spike strips.

The vehicle would hit the spike strips and come to a stop at 11th and Main Street.

The sheriff’s office said the driver, later identified as being Willie Crispin, Jr., got out and flee the scene. His passenger, Ebony Ford, was taken into custody.

Wheeler County officials said thanks to tips from Wheeler residents, deputies were quickly able to find Crispin in a nearby alley.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found approximately 7.5 lbs. of marijuana in the vehicle.

Ford was charged with possession of more than 5 pounds but less than 50 pounds of marijuana. Her bond was set at $20,000.

Crispin was charged with the same possession of marijuana charge, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and evading arrest or detention. His bond was set at $50,000.
