Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says with the holiday season approaching, scammers have become more prevalent.

He says locally he’s seen an uptick in attempted scams over the phone that say they’re collecting funds for local law enforcement agencies.

Manning says the only organization that the Sheriff’s Department is affiliated with is the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Association, and says they only ask for funds in a mailed letter to local residents.

He says if you suspect you’re being scammed, to simply hang up your phone.
