A winter weather warning has been issued for several counties in western Oklahoma, with other parts of the state under a winter weather advisory until Wednesday morning.

According to meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Norman, the warning will go into affect at 6a.m. Tuesday morning and last for 24 hours due to the impending winter storm that’s to roll into the area over night.

Forecasters say the precipitation will start as rain and change over to snow, with parts of western Oklahoma seeing heavy, wet snow throughout Tuesday. According to meteorologists, counties in the warning could see anywhere between 4” – 6” of snow. Counties in the warning include, among others, Roger Mills, Beckham, Greer, Kiowa, Custer, and Washita. Hemphill, Wheeler, and Collingsworth Counties in Texas are in a winter storm warning as well.

Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says in weather events like this, he stays in regular contact with the county’s school superintendents. He says this helps the superintendents decided whether or not there will be school or not.

Keep it tuned to 96.5 KECO and KOOL 94.3 in the morning for the latest school closures.
