The high school basketball playoffs progressed over the weekend, bringing us closer to the end of the hoops season. In the Class B Girls division, the Hammon Lady Warriors are set to defend last year’s State Title after defeating Geronimo 54-34 in the Area Finals. Meanwhile, the Leedey Bison secured their Class B Boys state tournament spot by overcoming Wesleyan Christian 59-48 in the Area Cons Finals, following a loss to Frontier.
Canute’s Trojanettes reached the Class A Girls Area Cons Finals but were eliminated with a 44-36 loss to Allen, while the Erick Bearcats bid farewell to the season after a narrow 40-37 defeat to FT Cobb.
State Tournament Brackets Unveiled:
The State Tournament Brackets are out, with all Class A and B tournaments set to unfold inside the Big House starting Wednesday. Class B action kicks off first, with #4 Hammon facing #3 Mt. View-Gotebo at 9 am. Though live video streaming isn’t available due to the agreement between OSSAA and NFHS, audio coverage will be provided on paragontv and KOOL 94.
On Wednesday evening, the Leedey Bison clash with the Granite Panthers in Class B Boys action at 6:00 pm, airing on both paragontv and KOOL 94.
Regional Tournaments Recap:
In Class 4A Girls, the Elk City Elkettes claimed the Regional Cons Championship with a 69-57 victory over Bishop McGuinness. Freshman Campbell Garbarino shone with a career-high 20 points, guiding Elk City to the Area Tournament for the first time since 2020.
Merritt teams showcased dominance in the Regional Finals, with the Oilerettes securing a comfortable 50-27 win over Cashion for the Regional Championship. Meanwhile, the Merritt Oilers surprised many by clinching the regional title against Crescent with a 49-39 victory. Both Merritt teams look forward to challenging matchups in the upcoming Area Finals.
