British Open Second Round in the Books

The first two rounds of the 152nd British Open are complete. The top three players are all Europeans, two of whom had to go through pre-tournament qualifying just to participate. Shane Lowry, the 2019 champion, holds a two-shot lead after 36 holes at 7 under par. Englishmen Daniel Brown and Justin Rose are two shots back at 5 under. A trio of players, including Billy Horschel, Dean Burmester, and Scottie Scheffler, finished at 2 under.

The group at 1 under par is filled with star-studded names such as Corey Conners, Jason Day, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay. Matthew Jordan and Joaquinn Niemann are at even par. Another group of top golfers, including Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Mac Hughes, and Jon Rahm, are at 1 over par. The cut will come at 6 over par.

Those who will be trunk-slamming after missing the weekend include Akshay Bhatia, Henrik Stenson, Louis Oosthuizen, Will Zalatoris, Min Woo Lee, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg, Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland, Tom Kim, Rory McIlroy, Cam Smith, Tiger Woods, Sahith Theegala, and Wyndham Clark.

Cummins Fighting to Make the Cut on the Korn Ferry Tour

Weatherford’s Quade Cummins is battling to make the cut at this week’s Korn Ferry Tour stop in Springfield, MO. After starting 4 over through 12 holes yesterday at Highland Springs Country Club, Quade finished with four birdies in 6 holes to scratch out an even par first round. This afternoon, Cummins has made three birdies in his first nine holes and sits at 3 under par with nine holes to play. The current cut line is at 5 under, so Quade needs to play the final nine holes in two under minimum to make it to the weekend.

Sooners Tabbed to Finish 8th in SEC; Stutsman and Bowman 1st Team All-SEC

The Oklahoma Sooners have been picked to finish 8th by the media in their first season as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Georgia’s Bulldogs are favored to win the conference. The other newly minted SEC squad, the Texas Longhorns, were picked second. Alabama, in its first season after Nick Saban’s retirement, is third. Ole Miss is fourth, LSU fifth, Mizzou sixth, and Tennesseeseventh. That means numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 in the preseason SEC poll can all be found on the Sooners’ schedule.

Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman were named to the first team all-SEC on the defensive side of the ball. Purdue transfer Deion Burks made the third team preseason offense.
