HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS RESULTS
The second of two January regular season tournament weeks wrapped up all across the state of Oklahoma Saturday night. Elk City went to the Rocky Clarke Invitational in Washington. The Elkettes fell in the 3rd place game to North Rock Creek 62-45. Abby Brown led the Elkettes with 21. The Elks fell in the 7th place game to Tecumseh 55-38.
Merritt held the Bi County Tournament that featured extremely strong fields. The Oilerettes took down Class A #1 Seiling in the title game 53-37. Cheyenne-Reydon’s Lady Bears took home 3rd place by dismantling Quinton 51-31. The Hammon Warriors topped the Merritt Oilers in the boy’s 3rd place game 56-39. C-R won the Consolation title with a 54-31 pasting of Blair. Laverne took home the boys title with a 52-45 win over Duke.
Both Erick teams played in the Championship game at the Cordell Classic. The Lady Bearcats fell to the Host Lady Blue Devils 44-25. The Bearcats claimed the championship with a 41-32 win over Sweetwater.
Both Leedey teams were in the finals down at Altus in the Tri County. 3rd time was a charm for the Lady Bison this season against Arnett in a 42-36 win. The Bison were champs as well with a 41-38 win against Frederick.
Over at the West Central in Weatherford, the Canute Trojanettes breezed to the title with a 52-28 win over H-E. AB fell in the 3rd place game to Thomas 54-50. Thomas also beat AB for 3rd in the boys bracket 44-29. Canute won the Cons bracket 56-43 against Sentinel. Calumet was the boys champ by outlasting H-E 72-58.
HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS RANKINGS
So how did those results reflect in this week’s high school basketball rankings? Let’s take a look. On the girls side of things in Class 4A Elk City fell a couple spots to 15th. Wford held steady at 17. Merritt remained at #7 in 2A. Seiling’s still Class A #1. Canute bumped up to 4. C-R is up to 14. Hammon’s #2 in Class B. L-S #3. Arnett’s still 6. Leedey’s 11. MVG 12. On the boys side Wford’s 1. B-O’s #6 in Class A. Canute’s 16 and H-E 20. Calumet stays #1 in Class B. Granite’s 4th, Hammon 6, Duke 10, Leedey 11, and Sentinel dropped to 18. The 2A, A, and Class B rankings are locked in this week. We’ll get playoff assignments coming up on Friday. 3A and 4A will have one more set of rankings next Monday before being locked in for the release of their playoff assignments the following Friday.
SUPER BOWL 58 IS SET
Super Bowl 58 is set after yesterday’s Conf Champ games. It’ll be a rematch of two years ago in Super Bowl 56. The NFC champion is the Philadelphia Eagles who pulled away to blow out the Washington Commanders 55-23. Philly rushed for 7 TDs in the title game, one more than the Dallas Cowboys rushed for the entire season. The nightcap in the AFC was another instant classic between the Chiefs and Bills. Kansas City once again crushed Buffalo’s dreams 32-29. The Chiefs will be the first team in league history to play in the Super Bowl with a chance to 3 peat. Super Bowl 58 will be two weeks from yesterday down in New Orleans.
